Leeds tipped to sign Swift in January as two-and-a-half year pursuit revealed - pundit

Kevin Campbell has claimed the capture of Reading star John Swift in January would be a “great signing” for Leeds United.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the signing of the 26-year-old would “lift spirits” at Elland Road after a tough start to the season.

As reported by the Sheffield Star (November 13th), Burnley, Wolves and Leeds United are all considering bids for Swift in January.

The midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he is available to discuss a pre-contract agreement with non-English sides in the winter window.

Football Insider first revealed Leeds’ interest in Swift in April 2019 and The Athletic‘s Phil Hay reported on Monday (November 15th) that Marcelo Bielsa remains an admirer.

The Chelsea academy graduate has netted eight goals and registered seven assists in 17 Championship outings this term.

Campbell insisted Leeds need a new midfielder and claimed Swift would be capable of contributing in the top flight.

“I’ve watched him a few times,” he told Football Insider.

“With Bielsa being a fan of his, I can see that being a great signing – they need another midfielder.

“They need some fresh blood in that squad at Leeds United. It will lift spirits all around the club.

“He’s a good player and I have no doubt that he would help them in the Premier League.”

Leeds United are just three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone after 11 games.

The Whites travel to north London to face Tottenham on Sunday.
