Leeds tipped to sign 'top' striker after 'huge' Bamford injury update - pundit

Leeds United “have to” bring in a quality striker in the wake of Patrick Bamford’s fitness troubles, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old has been a “big-time” miss for the Whites.

As quoted by Leeds Live, Marcelo Bielsa today (14 January) hinted that strikers Rodrigo and Bamford could be “options” against West Ham on Sunday.

Bielsa confirmed Bamford could play a part against the Irons, but insisted the England international’s recovery is “still being finalised”.

Campbell insisted Leeds United should be looking to draft in some quality reinforcements despite today’s reserved injury boost.

“They need top players,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I don’t know whether it’s the regime that’s taking a toll on the players with all the injuries, but they really miss players like Bamford.

“Bamford is a big-time miss. He’s someone up front who is not only good in the air but he’s got a bit of craft and guile to him. He scored double figures last season, and that’s a huge miss.

“They’ll have to go out and get someone in to help. It’s tough to find that in January, but they have to. If they keep going the way they are, they’re going to struggle.”

Bamford was ever-present for the Whites last term, netting 17 league goals.

A Leeds United source told this site on Tuesday (11 January) that the club can only make loan signings this month due to financial fair play restrictions.

The Yorkshire side have won just one of their last six games and sit 16th in the Premier League.
