Leeds may sign new defender after double injury blow - Paddy Kenny
Injuries to Pascal Struijk and Diego Llorente might leave Leeds United with no choice but to sign a new centre-back this summer.
So says ex-Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Leeds’ 3-2 friendly defeat to Real Betis on Saturday (31st July).
Liam Cooper meanwhile has been absent for Leeds pre-season but could feature in tonight’s (4th August) friendly clash away to Ajax.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side were hit badly by injuries at centre-half last term and forced to field the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Luke Ayling out of position.
Kenny claims Leeds will be desperate to prevent history to repeat itself, and that might mean adding to their options at centre-back this summer.

“They had that really dodgy spell last season,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“They had to take Kalvin Phillips out of his prefered role. And if all three are struggling, it’s an area they might need to address in the transfer market.
“It depends how long they are going to be out for. But they definitely don’t want history to repeat itself and to be stuck in the same position that they were last season.
“So they need to be really, really careful that they don’t make things worse by playing one of them when they’re not ready.”
