Leeds United backed to sign Patrick Bamford ally after stance reported - pundit

Kevin Campbell has backed Leeds United to make a concrete move for Southampton striker Che Adams this month.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton goalscorer suggested the 26-year-old would be the perfect cover and competition for Patrick Bamford at Elland Road.

According to The Sun‘s Alan Nixon (30 July), Leeds United are lining up a surprise move for Adams in this window.

Whites manager Jesse March is keen to bolster his striking options before the transfer window shuts.

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, via GiveMeSport (1 August), Southampton are open to offers for Adams.

Leeds have been long-term admirers of the Saints forward and failed in a bid to sign him in January 2020.

Adams is under contract at St. Mary’s until the end of June 2024.

When asked by Football Insider if Adams would be a welcome addition at Elland Road, Campbell said: “I like Che Adams.

“He is a good player, a strong player who scores goals. Yes, he scores goals in bunches at times but he is a handful.

“Leeds could do with someone at the top end of the pitch who is physical and can get hold of the ball. That is what they lacked when Bamford was injured last season. They need another striker who can occupy centre-halves.

“I think that would be a good signing for them.”
