Kieran Maguire salutes 'football saint' Bielsa after 'wonderful gesture' saves Leeds money
Marcelo Bielsa is “one of football’s saints” and has just saved Leeds United money with a “wonderful gesture”.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Bielsa’s decision to fund a new development at Elland Road.
The Daily Mail reported on 25 October that the Argentine manager will bankroll the construction of a new on-site gym.
It is understood that the 66-year-old has drafted in his architect wife to aid the design of the facility, which sits in the East Stand at Elland Road.
Leeds spent close to £25million on infrastructure over the course of the last accounting year.
Maguire lavished praise on the “eccentric” Bielsa for his generosity and claimed Leeds will be glad to have made a small saving.

“Bielsa truly is one of football’s saints,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“He is an eccentric obsessive and I’m all for that. He has saved the owners some money as well, which is always going to be a bonus.
“But this shows he sees things that go beyond the profit and loss account. In terms of welfare, he wants to reach out and be positive.
“He wants to give people at the football club the opportunity to look after their physical welfare, and their mental welfare as well.
“We’ve got used to seeing this sort of thing from Bielsa. It’s a wonderful gesture and a measure of the man.”
