Leeds may submit big-money Ryan Kent bid and lure him with exciting new role - Whelan

Leeds United may launch a fresh move for Rangers sensation Ryan Kent this summer and lure him with the offer of the number 10 role.

That is according to ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old winger who has so impressed for Rangers in 2020-21.

He has netted 11 times and registered 13 assists in all competitions as Steven Gerrard’s side stormed to a first Scottish Premiership title in a decade.

Leeds had a bid for Kent rejected in the summer before turning their attention to Raphinha, who signed for £17million from Rennes and has been a revelation.

Whelan predicts that Leeds could reignite their interest in Kent but only if he is willing to play a central role in order to accommodate the magnetic Raphinha.

He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “They’ll consider their options. But now they have Raphinha, he’s now considered that top player.

“I don’t think we’ll look there now unless Kent really considers playing a number 10 role. He’s a player that can adapt across that midfield area, whether that’s on the left, the right or the centre.

“It depends on where they are looking to strengthen. We know we need more midfield players, that’s a fact. Do they want more of a natural attacking centre-midfield player?

“Mateusz Klich is out of favour but Stuart Dallas is doing a fantastic job in that area with his energy and quality. But we need more options.

“Ryan Kent will always be an option because he’s at the right age and he’s got lots of ability to go into a Premier League outfit.”

Raphinha has six goals and five assists in 24 Premier League matches so far this season.
