Leeds United news: Patrick Bamford comeback claim issued after injury latest - pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Patrick Bamford to play an “impact sub” role for Leeds United between now and the end of the season.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the Whites cannot afford to “rush” the 28-year-old back after his injury-plagued campaign.

Speaking at his press conference last week (28 April), Jesse Marsch confirmed he hopes to have Bamford back “on the pitch” this week after recovering from a plantar fascia injury.

The striker has missed the Whites’ last four games, having only returned from a hamstring problem in March.

With four games left to play this season, Hutton suggested Bamford could be restricted to substitute appearances only.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I just think don’t rush it. With everything that he’s gone through, everything that’s happened this season, you’ve got four games left.

“I understand that having a fully fit Bamford who’s firing would help you, there’s no doubt about that. Can he come on and affect games, if he’s fit and ready, for maybe the last 15, 20 minutes?

“I think that’s probably the part that he will play moving forward. It will be very difficult just to throw him in at this level, against the teams they’re coming up against.

“I think if you can get an impact sub out of him, I think that would do him the world of good.”

Bamford has only played 10 times across all competitions for Leeds this season.

He suffered an ankle problem in September and made just one appearance before being sidelined again between December and March.
