Leeds United are keeping close tabs on Birmingham City sensation Adan George, Football Insider can reveal.

The Yorkshire giants are among a number of clubs who have been monitoring the striker, 17, during his club’s eyecatching FA Youth Cup run.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that George is on their radar and club scouts watched him in action Birmingham Under-18s’ 4-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic last week.

George caught the eye of the Championship big hitters in that fixture despite his team’s failure to progress to the sixth round.

The rising star is out of contract in the summer and can be prised from St Andrew’s for a minimal compensation fee.

Birmingham cannot tie him down to a long-term deal until he turns 18 in July, although they could secure him to a new contract before that point.

George has been a prolific scorer for Birmingham Under-18s this season, scoring hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and

He has also scored at Under-23s level and is set to be a regular for that team in the second half of the campaign.

Birmingham City development coach Steve Spooner said: “He looks a real threat. There are still areas of the game he needs to tidy up on, particularly with his back to the goal. But he is a real threat.

“He has a physique like a middleweight boxer and you get him running in the channels against you, when he uses his strength as well as his pace, then he causes a problem.”
