Kieran Maguire claims there's 'a lot of wealth in Leeds' after £25m update via Sky
Leeds United will be able sell “limitless” high-end tickets after the expansion of Elland Road.
That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively after Sky Sports revealed that Leeds have scrapped £25million plans to develop their academy setup.
That money will instead go towards raising capacity at Elland Road from 39,000 to 55,000.
Leeds City Council had already given the green light for the club to increase capacity to 50,000 but they have elected to boost it even further.
Leeds will reignite plans to develop their training complex in time but developing Elland Road is a more pressing issue, asserts Maguire.
“I expect both will take place in due course,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Ultimately, when dealing with all finances, you have a fixed budget. So what Leeds are going to do is focus on the development of Elland Road.
“We’ve seen just how far they are behind other clubs in terms of matchday revenue. In the pre-Covid era, Man United were at £110m, Spurs would be heading for £120m, Arsenal were at £96m.
“Then you look at Leeds and theirs was £18m. They’ve done quite well in that they went from £8.8m in 2015 to £18m in 2019. That was partly due to the Cellino and Radrizzani effect at the club.
“But if they realistically want to compete with the ‘big six’ then they need A) a larger capacity stadium and B) a greater focus on big-ticket consumers, i.e the prawn sandwich brigade.
“Leeds can sell limitless boxes, in my view. It’s a one-city club and there is a lot of wealth in the city.”
