Whelan predicts how much longer Phillips will be at Leeds after agent's transfer reveal

Leeds United are fast becoming a “world class” football club and it is not a surprise to hear that Kalvin Phillips is in no hurry to leave.

That is according to ex-Whites forward Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the midfielder’s agent spoke about his future at the club.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror (20th June print edition, p76), Kevin Sharp said: “I’ve got no desire to move Kalvin and he’s got no desire to move.”

Phillips, whose current deal expires in 2024, enjoyed a stellar season in 2020-21 and has become a regular in the England set-up.

Leeds finished 9th in the Premier League standings last term and recently revealed plans to boost capacity at Elland Road to 55,000.

Whelan claims that the 25-year-old will be excited by the trajectory of the club.

“I think right now he’s there for the foreseeable future,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“We’re looking to build. Last season we had a very good first season back in the Premier League with a couple of the new signings coming good at the end of the season.

“There might be more to come with a bit more fitness behind them and they now look like a side that’s going to go on and build again.

“I think he’s probably excited by the prospect of what’s to come in terms of the renovation of the ground and players coming in.

“The club are spending money to ensure every bit of the infrastructure is world class. You’ve got to watch this space because it is going to be exciting with the investment that’s going in.
