Leeds working on signing midfielder in January after Hay's Phillips update - pundit
Leeds United may already be in discussions to sign a new midfielder in January to lighten the load for Kalvin Phillips.
So says ex-Whites shot-stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest developments at Elland Road.
Phillips, 25, has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier double-header with a calf strain.
The Athletic‘s Phil Hay reported on 5 October that his injury is only minor and he has a good chance of featuring against Southampton on 15 October.
The 17-cap international is also keen to sign a contract extension, as revealed by Football Insider on 17 September.
Phillips is a vital cog in the Leeds machine and has not missed a minute of action after the opening-day defeat to Man United.

Kenny claims that Leeds will be desperate to bring in backup for the academy graduate in the mid-season window.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “When he has been out, they have struggled and missed him massively.
“I don’t think it’s a big injury but it makes you think. We have seen him pick up a few little niggles over the past couple of seasons.
“I’m sure they are already looking to sign people in the January window. You have to start doing your business early.
“I think a midfielder, someone who can play that role at the base of midfield, will be a top priority.“
