Dan James has already cost Leeds £15m and now they're set to lose millions more
Dan James has been a source of frustration for quite some time at Leeds United, and that is only going to continue.
The 28-year-old winger was crucial in Leeds' quest back to the Premier League, notching 12 goals and nine assists in a Championship-winning campaign.
However, since then, he has started just nine games, doing most of his battling off the field at Elland Road, with several long-term injuries.
The 2026-27 season looked like it could have been different when he scored against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup back in August.
But his only start since that game was in the next round of the cup, before being thrown into the Wales XI twice during the international break.
James scored in an unexpected 2-1 win over Norway, starred for Craig Bellamy, but was then nowhere to be seen against Denmark on Sunday, 4 October.
Dan James picks up another new injury
The reason for staying on the bench for the entire game, when his pace would have been very useful, was unknown, at least until now.
Daniel Farke has now confirmed that the Welshman will miss the game against Arsenal, having suffered a back injury away from Elland Road.
With yet another injury sustained, there needs to be a serious conversation about the player, who still has a contract until the summer of 2029.
Football Insider understands that Farke has no plans to get rid in January, but those behind the scenes may feel rather differently.
James earns over £100,000-a-week, and with over 15 weeks missed last season alone, Leeds are spending millions on him and not reaping the rewards.
Who else must Leeds United sacrifice?
James is not the only player causing frustrations at Elland Road, with Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Harry Wilson both also sidelined with injuries.
The former, having been signed from Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in the summer, has failed to make any sort of impact yet.
Sean Longstaff's minutes have also been limited, and the expectation is that he will leave in the coming transfer windows.
All signs would point towards Ilia Gruev being sold, and the same can be said for Lukas Nmecha, despite reports that he could sign a new deal.
