Leeds have just agreed 'very good signing' who'll be great in dressing room - transfer expert

Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach with a medical scheduled to take place on Monday.

The 29-year-old is set to join Leeds after an £8.5million deal was agreed between the clubs, and will pen a long-term contract until 2029 after he completes his medical checks.

This comes as the Whites have been aiming to strengthen their back line this summer, while adding quality strength in depth as part of Daniel Farke's ambitious plans.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Farke's relationship with Elvedi has been crucial to Leeds getting a deal over the line.

The two worked together during Farke's time at Monchengladbach, where the Switzerland international has spent 11 years as he closes in on an emotional departure.

Leeds, though, see him as a reliable option who can strengthen their back line, who can be an influence in the dressing room while already buying into the manager's plans.

Why are Leeds United signing Nico Elvedi?

Football Insider revealed on 12 July that Elvedi had opened the door for a move to Elland Road, with Monchengladbach having been resigned to his departure for weeks.

He has been a long-term target for Leeds thanks to his connections to Farke, and after his impressive performances at the World Cup, they have stepped up that interest.

Brown explained that Leeds' pursuit and imminent signing of Elvedi will be a significant boost to their plans as they aim to build on what was a strong season last time out.

"Nico Elvedi is going to be a very good signing for Leeds," Brown told Football Insider.

"It seems like Daniel Farke pulled some strings, because there's already that relationship between them from their time together in Germany.

"He obviously trusts him, and it's always a valuable asset to have a player who knows how the manager works, knows what his expectations are, and can help to make it happen.

"He'll be a good influence in the dressing room as well because he's an experienced player, he's played loads of football in Germany and at international level too.

"And I've always said, anybody can make a mistake in the transfer market, but not when it's a player the manager has had before.

"They know each other well and I think it'll be a good signing for Leeds, he's just the type of player they've been looking for, a solid and reliable defender to add some depth."

Which other players are on Leeds' radar?

Having now secured a deal for Elvedi, Leeds are set to turn their attentions elsewhere, as they believe they still need to make key additions to their squad before the window closes.

The addition of a new striker is believed to be high on their list, with a number of options having been considered, notably incuding Chelsea star Liam Delap.

Brown told Football Insider on 6 August that Leeds are well-placed to win the race for Delap, despite interest from Premier League rivals including Everton and Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old is expected to be made available by Xabi Alonso following the arrival of Danny Welbeck, placing a number of his long-term suitors on high alert.

However, the Blues are set to demand a lofty price tag of around £40million to let him go, and Leeds are reluctant to part with such a big sum.
