Leeds 'set sights' on signing Dutch international as Daniel Farke eyes 'ambitious' plan

Leeds United have set their sights on a deal to sign Burnley striker Zian Flemming as they aim to strengthen up front this summer.

The Whites are keen to land a new forward to play alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and were impressed by the 27-year-old's performances in the Premier League last season.

Despite Burnley suffering relegation, the Netherlands international scored 11 Premier League goals and proved he is ready to make the step up to the top flight.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Daniel Farke is eyeing "ambitious" signings at Leeds, but will also have to be smart in the market.

Flemming is expected to be available following Burnley's relegation to the Championship, and while Leeds are not the only club in the race, they represent an interesting option.

The former Millwall forward has attracted interest from the likes of Brentford and Coventry this summer, but Leeds believe they can beat their rivals to a deal.

Will Leeds United make a move to sign Zian Flemming?

Brown first told Football Insider in May that Leeds are interested in signing Flemming after scouts were spotted tracking his performances at Turf Moor last season.

His goalscoring record in the Premier League has placed a number of clubs on alert as they aim to give him another crack at the top flight ahead of the new season.

The addition of a striker has been high on Farke's list, and while there are more ambitious targets on Leeds' radar, Flemming has been tipped to be a smart signing.

"Everybody knows Daniel Farke wants to be ambitious in the transger window," Brown told Football Insider.

"He came out when the season ended and demanded the club back his ambitions with new signigns, and they've been linked with moves for some real top players.

"But they have to be smart in the market as well, not every signing can be a superstar player, sometimes somebody will become available and that will be seen as an opportunity.

"I think Zian Flemming is one of those types of players, it would be a smart signing for Leeds because it looks likely that he will leave Burnley.

"He scored plenty of goals in the Premier League last season and proved he can cut it at the top level, so when Leeds are looking for a striker, he is somebody who they have looked at.

"If they can get it done at a reasonable fee, maybe that will allow them to spend big on other areas of the squad that Farke wants to strengthen."

Which other clubs are in the race to sign Flemming?

As previously mentioned, Leeds are far from the only club interested in signing Flemming thanks to his performances in the Premier League last season.

Aside from his suitors in the English top flight, clubs in the Eredivisie and Bundesliga are believed to be keen, but one club has already made the first move this summer.

Football Insider revealed last month that Brentford have enquired about Flemming's availability and have already held talks with Burnley about the possibility of a move.

The Bees have already pulled off a deal for his teammate Jaidon Anthony this summer, and feel they could complete a double signing from Burnley before the window closes.

Their interest has yet to progress beyind the initial enquiry, but Brentford are keeping a close eye on his situation and could be prepared to swoop if he becomes available.
