Leeds should be planning a fresh approach for Frosinone playmaker Romano Schmid in January as he impresses in Serie A.
Schmid was closely linked to Leeds midway through last season as he impressed for Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.
The Austrian international midfielder was in talks with the Whites over a move to the Premier League, but he ultimately stayed in Germany and made the move to Frosinone in the summer.
Schmid has been a standout for his new club so far this season, helping fire them to a surprising sixth place as it stands on their return to the top flight.

They seem to be in a similar position ahead of the next winter window, with the likes of Anton Stach and Ao Tanaka struggling to create chances from midfield since their switch to a more regimented 3-5-2.
Schmid is among the top-performing attacking midfielders in Serie A so far this season for expected assists, big chances created and accurate long balls per 90.
He ran the show as they cruised past Champions League qualifiers Como on Sunday, with two assists in a 2-0 win, three chances created and one big chance created.
He also chipped in defensively, with eight recoveries, two ground duels won and two aerial duels won.
Schmid looks to be on song out in Italy, and would surely be tempted by a new offer from Leeds in January if his fine form continues.
Schmid can be Brenden Aaronson's long-term replacement
Leeds have not started with conventional attacking midfielders for the last three games, likely due to their lack of depth in the position.
Noah Okafor and Stach have each been used there but are better suited to other roles, with Aaronson the main player to see his minutes reduced as a result of the switch.
