Daniel Farke pushes for ‘escape clause’ in new Leeds agreement – Insider

Published on:

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has used reported interest from RB Leipzig to push for a release clause to be added to his new contract.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the German’s imminent new two-and-a-half-year deal is a fair outcome for all parties.

Farke is heading towards the expiry of his current contract next summer, but has now reportedly reached an agreement in principle with the club to extend his stay at Elland Road until 2029.

Wyness believes that the 49-year-old’s new deal will contain “reasonable” compensation clauses for both sides if he were to depart at all, either through a dismissal or a move elsewhere.

Leipzig have shown a clear admiration for Farke in recent months, but he remains committed to the project at Leeds for now.

The Whites are sitting eighth amid a bright start to the new Premier League campaign, and have lost just one of their opening seven league games.

Daniel Farke has ‘squeezed’ Leeds for new deal

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Farke has used the Leipzig interest to “squeeze” Leeds and get the terms that he wants from his new deal.

The 49ers still have plenty of faith in the former Norwich City boss, who could potentially take the club to new heights this term.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why a new deal at this stage will suit all parties.

“I think it makes a fair amount of sense for both of them (Farke and Leeds),” he said.

“From Farke's point of view, RB Leipzig were interested in talking to him as well, so there's interest there that he managed to get some pressure probably from to try and squeeze the club a bit to make a decision.

“But in the same way that Leeds have extended him, they know that only two and a half years, if things went wrong, they can get rid of him at a reasonable cost as well.

“And at the same time, he's now got a reasonable escape clause that the compensation won't be that bad.”

Leeds 'concerns' about Anton Stach assessed, expert predicts selection decision

Leeds’ Anton Stach ‘concerns’ assessed

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that Farke won’t have any major “concerns” surrounding Anton Stach’s performances of late.

The midfielder has faced criticism in recent weeks from some supporters, but Brown feels that he has suffered from nothing more than a slight dip in form.

The ex-recruitment boss made it clear that he does not expect the German to be dropped any time soon, as he remains a key piece of the puzzle at Elland Road.

Stach has created more chances than any other player for Leeds so far this season, and it was his corner that ultimately led to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s equaliser against Manchester United last weekend.
