'It will get done' - Leeds to finalise new deal after overcoming sticking point

Published on:

Leeds United are running the risk of losing manager Daniel Farke at the end of the season, as he is still awaiting an offer of a new contract.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Whites are running out of time to address Farke’s future before other clubs start sniffing around.

The German is out of contract at Elland Road next summer, and the West Yorkshire outfit have been plotting a move to extend his deal in recent weeks.

However, Wyness believes that a sticking point has emerged in negotiations, which has provided a real hold-up in discussions between the two parties of late.

The Scottish businessman feels that if Farke’s future isn’t resolved by the November international break, then it could turn into a genuine issue for Leeds.

The team have made a bright start to the new campaign on the pitch, and the 49ers still view Farke as the right man to help them achieve their dreams for the club.

Leeds backed to overcome stumbling block

Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Leeds have every chance of still overcoming the stumbling block that has crept into the negotiations.

The former boardroom man outlined that the delay could potentially even be due to something as minor as a key club figure behind the scenes being away on holiday.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained that he still has no concerns about Farke’s future at the moment.

“They don’t have long at all. If it's not going to be this international break, then certainly by the next international one in November, I think we'd expect to see something,” he said.

“I don’t expect there to be any real problems about this. I think it could well be a sticking point in negotiations that will get resolved.

“But I think Farke's going to be alright, and I think they'd be wrong to make a move at this time of the season when they've had a reasonable start.

“I think this will get resolved, and I think it'll just be a case of lawyers behind the scenes; possibly somebody was on holiday or something, but I think it'll get done.”

Sources: Dan James could push to quit Leeds in January

Daniel Farke could be at risk of losing promotion hero

Football Insider revealed last week that Leeds winger Daniel James could potentially push to leave the club in January amid an ongoing lack of football.

The Wales international has played just 52 minutes of Premier League football so far this term, and finds his long-term future under scrutiny as a result.

Sources say that Farke has no intention of actively trying to sell the 28-year-old, unless he makes it clear that he is keen to move and take on a new challenge.

James was a key figure in Leeds’ promotion back to the Premier League back in 2024-25, but he has since struggled to make a consistent impact at the top level.
