Leeds United to 'announce' new contract for key man imminently
Leeds United will seal their move to tie manager Daniel Farke down to a new contract during the upcoming international break.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Whites want to propel the "feel-good vibe" surrounding the club even further.
The West Yorkshire outfit are in ongoing talks with the German over an extension to his deal, which is currently due to expire at the end of the season.
Wyness believes that Leeds have already decided that the 49-year-old is the right man to continue leading them forward, and expects them to have the new deal confirmed in the next few weeks.
Farke's men will look to continue their unbeaten start in the Premier League at home against Crystal Palace this weekend, before the three-week international break.
Wyness believes that provides the club hierarchy with the perfect chance to finalise their discussions with the boss, and he expects them to take that opportunity.
Leeds 'won't let' Daniel Farke be poached
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Leeds "won't let" other clubs try to prise Farke away in the final months of his contract.
The Scottish businessman outlined that managers inside the final six months of their contract become sitting ducks for other clubs to target, but he does not see that happening with Farke.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he explained why the timing is right for the new contract to be sealed.
"Dominic Calvert-Lewin is coming into form, and Leeds are certainly looking like they've got something this season," Wyness said.
"A manager in his last year; if he gets to Christmas, he's a lame duck manager, and everybody starts to circle around him. Leeds won't let that happen.
"My sources tell me to expect it to be announced during the international break, it will be resolved quite quickly. I think they've decided that's it; Farke is the man, and the start has proven it once again.
"He will get a longer contract. That will settle down any rumours and keep the momentum going at Elland Road. There's a feel-good vibe there just now, not only because of the results, but also because of the building around the stadium.
"There's the feeling of a club on the up right now, so they're not going to do anything silly. They're going to let Farke get stabilised and move forward. So yes, I'd expect that one in the next couple of weeks."
Leeds planning Lukas Nmecha talks
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday that Leeds are planning to open talks over a new contract with striker Lukas Nmecha.
The German is out of contract at Elland Road next summer, but the club are keen to rectify that situation as quickly as possible.
Sources say that Farke and Co. remain happy with the role that Nmecha plays as Calvert-Lewin's backup, and are not prepared to let him leave on a free.
The frontman has started just two games so far this season in all competitions, but already has two assists to his name.
