Sources: Leeds plan to open Lukas Nmecha talks
Leeds are planning to hold talks with Lukas Nmecha over a new contract as he approaches the end of his initial deal, sources have told Football Insider.
The Whites continued their strong start to the new season with a 4-1 win over Newcastle on Monday night.
Nmecha made his third league appearance off the bench at Elland Road as Dominic Calvert-Lewin impressed ahead of him once again.
The versatile German forward is out of contract next summer and was the subject of interest from Wrexham in the recent transfer window.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the Whites want him to sign fresh terms and are planning to open talks over a new deal with Nmecha soon.
It remains to be seen if he is willing to stay beyond next summer, with regular game time set to be at a premium behind Calvert-Lewin.
Lukas Nmecha to sit down for contract talks with Leeds' chiefs
Nmecha registered seven goals and three assists in 37 appearances last season after joining Leeds on a free transfer following his exit from Wolfsburg.
He is not likely to start league games this season while Calvert-Lewin remains fit, with the Whites already out of the Carabao Cup, yet contract talks will start soon.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Leeds are obviously happy with Nmecha, they kept hold of him in the summer despite some interest in his services. His contract’s up next summer and I'm sure Leeds will want to discuss things with Nmecha and see what his thoughts and plans are as well.
"He joined Leeds on a free in 2025, so it wouldn't be a new experience for Nmecha if he wanted to explore his free agent status come next summer as well. I'm sure the club will have discussions with him at some point to see what he wants to do and obviously what their plans are for him."
Leeds 'confident' of striking Daniel Farke agreement
Leeds' chiefs are currently focused on sorting out a new contract for manager Farke as he strives to battle for European football this season.
Nmecha's compatriot has earned respect for consolidating the Whites in the Premier League, but is also out of contract at the end of this campaign.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Leeds are confident of tying Farke down to Elland Road long-term in the coming months.
Managing director Robbie Evans recently insisted that both parties are "on the same page" as they near a full agreement.
