Sources: Leeds to open talks over Brenden Aaronson deal

Leeds are set to hold fresh contract talks with Brenden Aaronson this summer after he entered the final year of his deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Aaronson earned praise for his impressive performances in the Premier League last season after helping Leeds win promotion from the Championship.

His commitment to the club had been questioned by supporters after he chose to go out on loan to Union Berlin following relegation in 2023.

The USA international is now a key part of Daniel Farke's squad, yet uncertainty looms over his future, with his contract set to expire in June 2027.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the Whites' hierarchy are keen to discuss a new deal with Aaronson soon, with transfer approaches expected this summer.

He is believed to be keen to stay at Elland Road long-term, but talks are at a standstill right now.

Aaronson was a regular starter in the Premier League last season, as he registered four goals and five assists in 37 appearances.

Farke is keen to bolster his attacking midfield options this summer, meaning the 25-year-old is potentially set for less game time in the upcoming campaign.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "We know that Aaronson’s career at Leeds has probably been topsy-turvy. He won his place in the team last season, and sort of won over a lot of fans who had questioned him with his performances.

"He's going into a key period of his career right now as well, going into the final year of his contract. I'm sure Leeds will want to sit down and discuss with him what the plans are and if he's willing to sign a new contract."

Leeds have already signed Harry Wilson after he left Fulham at the end of his contract, with more final third signings lined up for the next month.

They were reliant on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score regularly last season, as Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha struggled to compete up front.

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Leeds are accelerating a move for Burnley's Flemming after he shone in the Premier League last term.

The Dutchman, who can also play in attacking midfield, scored 11 goals in 29 league matches during his debut top flight campaign.
