Calvert-Lewin's hamstring 'may not have repaired properly' in new Leeds fear
Leeds United should not have any concerns about striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving the club any time soon.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the frontman has little desire to depart Elland Road.
Calvert-Lewin is out of contract in West Yorkshire in the summer of 2028, but there has been little sign of interest from other clubs of late.
Wyness believes that the former Everton star is “enjoying” playing for Daniel Farke, in a system that draws the best out of him as a player.
The Scottish businessman expects the England international to ultimately pen a new deal with the Whites, rather than turning his attention elsewhere when his contract expires.
Calvert-Lewin was revitalised with 15 goals in all competitions last season, and he already has five strikes to his name from just nine games so far this term.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin ‘question mark’ raised
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Leeds’ concerns surrounding Calvert-Lewin’s fitness are now all but forgotten.
The 29-year-old suffered sustained hamstring problems during his time at Everton, but managed 39 appearances in his debut campaign for Leeds last term.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained that while Calvert-Lewin’s injury record is still a “question mark” for some people, it won’t stop the Whites from backing him long-term.
“I don't think so (no plans to leave). I think Dominic is enjoying it because they've got the system set up to feed him and he's showing it with the goals he's putting in,” he said.
“Look, I've always been a fan of Dominic; I’ve always liked him. I wish he'd stayed at Everton. I put my cards on the table. But obviously, he's in Leeds. But I don't think he'll be ready to go.
“I think there'll always be that question mark as well about his hamstring and how strong it is at the moment. Is it really repaired properly?
“I really hope it is because a fit Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a very, very talented striker and I think he's enjoying it at Leeds. He's being adored by the fanbase, so, no, I don't see him going anywhere.”
Leeds United issued with Harry Gray update
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Leeds have no concerns about the development of young striker Harry Gray despite his slow start at Sheffield Wednesday.
The 18-year-old is spending the season on loan in League One with the Owls, but has scored just once in his nine appearances for his loan club so far.
Nevertheless, Brown expects Leeds to remain patient with Gray, and pointed out that not every young player immediately adapts to life in senior football.
Wednesday have shown faith in Gray so far and continue to hand him regular starting opportunities, and as long as that continues, Leeds will be happy.
