Leeds United: Georginio Rutter return is perfect fit after Brighton agree transfer
Leeds United now appear to be one step closer to a sensational return for Georginio Rutter this summer.
The Frenchman dazzled during his 18-month spell at Elland Road, and notably notched seven goals and 15 assists in the Championship back in 2023-24.
That form earned him a £40million move to Brighton, where he has never truly been able to take his career to the next level, and that has prompted scrutiny surrounding his future of late.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a return move to West Yorkshire in recent weeks, after a suggestion from Fabian Hurzeler that he is unhappy at the Amex Stadium.
Rutter struck three goals and three assists in 20 Premier League starts this term, but looks likely to be on the move this summer.
Daniel Farke is keen to add greater quality to his attacking options ahead of 2026-27, and Rutter could slot perfectly into their left-sided winger role.
Brighton transfer opens door to Georginio Rutter exit
Brighton completed their first new addition of the summer last weekend, as they agreed a deal to sign AIK youngster Zadok Yohanna.
The right-winger had made a name for himself as the brightest emerging talent in the Swedish Allsvenskan, but will now take the next steps of his development with the Seagulls.
Yohanna's arrival on the South Coast creates yet more competition for Rutter, and has potentially now left the door open for him to depart.
That could see the stars align for Leeds to bring him back to Elland Road, as they are currently searching for a left-footed winger who is capable of playing on the right flank, according to The Athletic.
Rutter would be a perfect fit for that role, and could also provide support for Dominic Calvert-Lewin by playing as a central striker when needed.
That position is a top priority for the Whites to strengthen ahead of next season, and a move for Rutter would be a popular one among the fans.
Leeds set for extra £70m investment in squad
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that the 49ers are ready to invest a further £70m in Leeds' squad this summer.
This comes after Farke's men netted £144m in prize money for the club after finishing 14th in the Premier League.
Wyness made it clear that the owners are likely to make between 30 and 50 per cent of that money available as part of the summer's transfer budget, as Farke and Co. eye subtle tweaks rather than "wholesale" changes.
That looks set to be a valuable addition to the club's transfer kitty, and could allow them to really hone in on their top targets, rather than having to settle for back-up options.
