Merseyside Insider: 'Favourites' to sign Harvey Elliott named as Leeds and RB Leipzig race to deal
Harvey Elliott will definitely be sold by Liverpool this summer amid interest from Leeds United.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the "bad blood" between the midfielder and the Reds is enough to ensure his time at Anfield will come to a close imminently.
Leeds are the latest Premier League side to be linked with a move for the 23-year-old, who endured a difficult loan spell with Aston Villa last term.
However, Wyness believes that Bundesliga club RB Leipzig are currently the "favourites" to secure the signature of the former England U21 international.
The German club are long-term admirers of the former Fulham academy graduate, and have continued to keep tabs on him in recent years.
He has emerged as a clear target for them again this summer, and Wyness believes that they are currently the most likely candidate to land him.
Harvey Elliott 'personal terms' to be decisive
Everton’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Leipzig's ability to agree personal terms with the starlet holds the key to their pursuit.
The Scottish businessman feels that if the Red Bull-backed outfit can convince Elliott to make the move to Germany, then there is nothing stopping them from getting a deal over the line.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained why Elliott could be a good fit for the Bundesliga.
"Yeah, I think the bad blood is certainly enough to get him away from Liverpool, and I think, I'm afraid, Leipzig are the favourites from what I've heard," he said.
"I think that's where it will end up. There's a possibility he'll go to Leeds, but Leipzig are still the favourites, and I think if they can come to personal terms, that's what would make it happen.
"Leeds is going to become an attractive option for a player like Harvey, but I think it might be good for him personally to get out of England.
"We've seen before that many players can do very well in Germany now, and the English players, more and more going out there, starting to realise that they're really increasing their value.
"I think the Bundesliga would suit him in his style of play very well. I still rate him as a player, I'm amazed Liverpool did what they did, and I think they're going to see him go on to be a very good asset for someone else."
Elliott's contract to force Liverpool's hand
Football Insider revealed at the end of July that Liverpool will listen to any offers that come their way for Elliott this summer,.
The youngster is out of contract at Anfield in the summer of 2027, and the club have now decided that they will cash in before the 3 September transfer deadline.
Elliott has been involved for Andoni Iraola's side in the early stages of their pre-season campaign, but it is expected that their will be no way back for him long-term.
The interest from Leipzig and Leeds gives Liverpool options in terms of a sale, but is appears that the Germans currently hold the advantage.
