Sources: Daniel Farke pushing for Leeds to seal striker deal
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is extremely keen to add a new striker to his squad next year, sources have told Football Insider.
The German boss is understood to be keen to build as many forward options as possible in order to strengthen his team in the next nine months.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha are the only out-and-out strikers in the squad at the moment, with the latter out of contract at the end of the season.
Sources say that Leeds are assessing their options and are prepared to bring in a new face next summer, provided that the club hierarchy feel it would strengthen their squad.
The Whites have enjoyed a positive start to the new campaign, but their lack of depth up front is providing an element of concern.
Farke is hoping to address that ahead of next season, with movement in the attacking department not likely in the January window.
Will Lukas Nmecha get a new contract at Leeds?
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Leeds remain "optimistic" that they will be able to keep Nmecha beyond the end of the campaign.
The German has had to settle for a backup role behind Calvert-Lewin, but Brown sees him as someone who is a very capable understudy at Premier League level.
Nmecha has played just 75 minutes of league football so far this season, and any chance of a new contract is likely to hinge on how happy he is with his current role.
If the former Wolfsburg man ultimately opts to move on next summer, then the addition of a new striker will become an even bigger priority for Farke and the recruitment team.
If that scenario does ultimately play out, then there is even a chance that the West Yorkshire outfit could move to bring in two new faces at the top of the pitch.
Leeds 'fear' losing Tarik Muharemovic
Brown also told Football Insider earlier this week that Leeds have a "fear" of losing star centre-back Tarik Muharemovic already after his move in the summer.
The Bosnian has made an eye-catching start to life at Elland Road, and is already attracting interest from Bayern Munich at the moment.
Brown believes that Leeds are under no pressure to sell their £34million summer addition any time soon, but did acknowledge that there will be an element of concern over the Bayern issue.
Muharemovic has played every single minute of the Premier League campaign so far, and is likely to remain a key figure moving forward.
