Leeds 'fear' losing Tarik Muharemovic as European giants plot swoop

Published on:

Leeds United are fearful of losing Tarik Muharemovic in 2027 amid growing interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs.

The 23-year-old has been outstanding since his £34.1million move to Elland Road in the summer, and has established himself as a crucial part of Daniel Farke's ambitious plans.

Those performances have inspired interest from a number of high-profile clubs, however, leading to speculation that he could be lured away from Leeds sooner than expected.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Leeds are prepared to do everything in their power to keep Muharemovic at Elland Road long-term.

Farke's side are in a strong position with regard to his future, having signed him on a five-year deal which is set to run until 2031, and will not be forced to sell in the near future.

While the interest from the likes of Bayern Munich and top Premier League clubs will be a concern, Leeds are still confident that they will be able to keep hold of Muharemovic.

Could Leeds be set to lose Tarik Muharemovic?

Football Insider revealed on 4 October that Leeds have ruled out selling Muharemovic in the near future and are prepared to block any approaches for the centre-back.

After his excellent start to life in the Premier League, there is bound to be high-profile interest and offers may arrive in 2027, but the club remain in an extremely strong position.

The level of interest will inevitably cause concerns behind the scenes, but Leeds are confident of not losing their best players after a strong start to the season.

"It's always a concern for a club like Leeds when these elite sides are looking at your players," Brown told Football Insider.

"Muharemovic has been outstanding since he came in, he's proving to be a great buy for Leeds, and I've been very impressed by what I've seen from him already.

"But of course, when you're playing at a high level in the Premier League, there are going to be top clubs domestically and in Europe who are put on alert over his situation.

"That's going to be a concern for Leeds, but I would much rather be in their position rather than being one of the clubs looking to prise him away.

"They're in a very strong position, he's under a long-term contract because he's only just joined, and they're going to be doing everything they can to keep him at the club.

"But there will be a bit of fear there like you'd expect when some of the clubs being mentioned are looking at your best player."

Which clubs are interested in Muharemovic?

Leeds' determination to keep hold of Muharemovic beyond the end of the season has done little to deter the growing interest in the centre-back from clubs across Europe.

Bayern Munich are the most high-profile European side to have been named, with Vincent Kompany reportedly keen to land the centre-back in the near future.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 3 October that the Premier League's top clubs have all placed Muharemovic high on their shortlist of defensive targets.

The 23-year-old is unlikely to move on in January, but interest in his services at home and abroad could heat up towards the end of the campaign.

Other clubs including Barcelona and Inter Milan have also shown an interest in recent weeks, and were believed to be keen before his move to Leeds, who now have no plans to sell.
