Leeds United attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson is "prioritising" extending his stay at Elland Road this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has one year left on his current contract in West Yorkshire, but is keen to continue his career with the Whites rather than look elsewhere.

Daniel Farke sees the USA international as a key part of his plans for next season and beyond, and sources say there is a "willingness" from all parties to agree an extension in the coming weeks.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Leeds are planning to open fresh contract talks with the former Red Bull Salzburg man once he returns from the World Cup.

Aaronson is one of several Leeds stars who could potentially leave the club for free next summer, but both he and the club hierarchy are keen to avoid that eventuality.

The American established himself as a vital player under Farke last term, and he has no desire to move away at the moment.

Several players in Farke's squad are set to face a pivotal summer this time around, with the expiry of their contracts looming on the horizon next term.

First-team stars Lukas Nmecha, Joel Piroe and Ilia Gruev could all walk away from Elland Road on free transfers next summer.

The duo of Joe Gelhardt and Maximilian Wober are also into the final stages of their time with the club, with both likely sale candidates this summer.

However, Leeds have no intention of allowing themselves to be forced into selling Aaronson at the final opportunity in January.

They are hoping to have a new deal wrapped up long before then, in order to preserve the American's value to them and in the market.

Aaronson notched four goals and five assists in the Premier League last term, and there is big hope that he can improve again in 2026-27.

Leeds in 'damage limitation' with Jack Harrison

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider on Tuesday that Leeds would "love" to sell winger Jack Harrison this summer.

The wideman has caused plenty of issues for the Whites in recent years, but still remains under contract until the summer of 2028.

Borson emphasised that Leeds are now into "damage limitation" territory with the 29-year-old, and may have to loan him out again as a last resort.

Harrison has just returned to Elland Road from a loan spell with Fiorentina, where he managed just one goal and three assists in 22 games.
