Sources: Leeds eye move for 18 G/A star, he will cost them £40m

Leeds United will have to pay in excess of the £40million mark to sign Marseille winger Igor Paixao this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Whites have recently reignited their pursuit of the 26-year-old after chasing him extensively last summer before his move to Ligue 1.

The Brazilian is a long-term target for the West Yorkshire outfit, but it is understood that they are concerned about potentially being caught "overpaying" for him.

Sources say that Leeds are not comfortable paying such a "premium price" for Paixao, and it is expected to be a "difficult" deal for them to do.

Marseille are not keen on the idea of losing the former Feyenoord man, unless they can secure a transfer fee that truly makes it worth their while.

Paixao enjoyed a promising debut campaign in France last time out, as he notched 12 goals and six assists in all competitions.

Daniel Farke and Co. are only prepared to make a move for the wideman at a cut-price compared to his current valuation, but that is not in Marseille's interests.

The French outfit are protected by a long and lucrative contract, with Paixao currently tied down until the summer of 2030.

Leeds remain big admirers of the quality that he provides, but are likely to find a deal out of reach once again, unless there is a dramatic change in Marseille's stance.

Farke is keen to add more firepower to his squad at the top of the pitch, but it has become increasingly clear that they will have to look elsewhere.
