Leeds United striker Lukas Nmecha is "open" to the idea of moving back to the Bundesliga next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The German frontman is out of contract at Elland Road at the end of the season and is seemingly edging closer to an exit when his deal runs down.

The 27-year-old has now emerged as a target for FC Koln in January, while several other Bundesliga clubs are also keen to take him back to his homeland.

Sources say that Nmecha may look favourably on the possibility of signing a pre-contract agreement in January, and then moving at the end of the season.

He is yet to start a single Premier League game so far this season, but remains the only option to cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin as Leeds’ central striker.

Nmecha netted seven goals for the Whites in all competitions last term, but his future is now in serious doubt heading into the winter.

Leeds caught in tricky Lukas Nmecha situation

Nmecha’s lack of football at Leeds so far this season has come as no surprise, with Calvert-Lewin picking up where he left off last term.

The England international ended 2025-26 with 15 goals to his name in all competitions, and already has five from his opening nine games this term.

Calvert-Lewin is one of the first names on the team sheet for Daniel Farke, and with Leeds regularly only operating with one out-and-out striker, that has naturally capped Nmecha’s minutes.

However, they also remain reluctant to lose the former Wolfsburg man in the middle of the campaign, as he will immediately be called upon if Calvert-Lewin picks up an injury at any stage.

With that in mind, it is a tricky situation for both Nmecha and the club to handle at the moment.

The player is not getting the level of game time that he was hoping for, but there is not an obvious solution to his concerns at the moment.

Tarik Muharemovic 'tempted' to quit Leeds and join Premier League rival

Tarik Muharemovic ‘tempted’ to join Premier League rival

Former Manchester United chief scout recently told Football Insider that Leeds’ star centre-back Tarik Muharemovic could potentially be “tempted” to join a leading Premier League club next summer.

The Bosnian is already on the radar at Bayern Munich, and Brown revealed that Man United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all looking to bring in new centre-backs as well.

Muharemovic has made an impressive start in the Premier League, and Brown feels that Leeds could potentially lose him after just one season if they fail to qualify for Europe.

The 23-year-old has played every minute of league action for the Whites so far this term, and looks to be one of the biggest bargains of the summer window.
