Russell Martin faces Leicester City sack after 'disastrous' development

Russell Martin is already facing calls for his sacking at Leicester City after a disastrous start to the season in League One.

The Foxes have won just one of their five league games so far this season and suffered a huge 4-0 defeat against Oxford United at the King Power Stadium on 5 September.

Following their relegation from the Championship last time out, Martin was tasked with leading them to promotion, but doubts have already arisen about his abilities.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Martin's stubbornness and refusal to adapt will get him sacked from a third job in a row.

Leicester are now showing the same issues that Southampton and Rangers have previously endured under the manager's leadership, with no signs of any positive change.

Should their current run of form fail to improve ahead of a visit to high-flying Stockport in their next game, calls for Martin's head are only expected to grow.

Will Russell Martin be sacked by Leicester?

Football Insider reported on 5 September that Leicester fans have called for Martin to be sacked immediately in the wake of their heavy defeat against Oxford United.

Back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One mean tensions are already high at the King Power Stadium, and the manager has done little to releive those concerns.

A nightmare start to the season and a number of strange decisions have come as no surprise from Martin, of whom questions continue to be asked behind the scenes.

"It has been a disaster at Leicester City over the last couple of seasons," Brown told Football Insider.

"The decision to bring in Russell Martin as their new manager was always a questionable one after what he did at Southampton and Rangers, and it's going wrong already.

"The fans aren't happy, they're not winning games, and suffering a big defeat like the one at home last time out will not do him any favours.

"It's embarrassing, losing 4-0 at home, when they would have been coming into the season looking to get promoted back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

"Now, it's easier said than done of course, but Russell Martin is somebody who has struggled everywhere he's been, but he keeps being afforded these new chances.

"The fans aren't happy, and when they start to turn, it's difficult to get them back on side, especially when results are going the way they have been recently.

"If they don't win in their next couple, you can see things turning really sour, and I would be surprised if he is still in the job when that happens."

What has gone wrong at Leicester City?

Martin's arrival and the dismal start to the season at Leicester has come following a couple of disastrous seasons and a sudden drop down into League One.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider in June that Leicester's board are "confused" and have failed to adequately prepare for life in the third tier.

While there is pressure on the manager's position, there is a feeling that the club have failed to provide him with the right circumstances to be a success at the King Power.

Serious discussions were held ahead of the start of the new season, but there have been suggestions that the club have not been prepared for a season in League One.

Despite holding ambitions of achieving promotion at the first time of asking, their lack of preparations and the manager's struggles are already becoming clear.
