Leicester City are lining up a move to sign Bristol City striker Emil Riis before the transfer deadline, sources have told Football Insider.

Russell Martin is determined to improve his attacking options before the window closes, and has identified the 28-year-old as a leading target to strengthen up front.

Riis is being targeted by a number of clubs in the Football League and across Europe after dropping down the pecking order at Ashton Gate.

However, Leicester are now aiming to steal a march on their rivals and could make a bid within hours, with the 1 September deadline now looming.

The six-foot-three striker scored 12 goals and porvided three assits in 47 appearances last season, but has played just 47 minutes across the opening four games this term.

While Riis still has two years on his contract at Ashton Gate, which is set to run until 2028, but could be allowed to leave with his replacements already through the door.

Could Bristol City allow Emil Riis to join Leicester?

Football Insider revealed in July that Michael Skubala has been keen to strengthen his attacking options at Ashton Gate, as Bristol City closed in on the signing of Lorent Tolaj.

The striker eventually made the switch, alongside the signing of Dom Ballard from Leyton Orient, who has enjoyed a strong start to life in the Championship.

Elijah Adebayo was also brought in as a free agent, and as a result, Riis is now competing with him for a place as the third-choice striker under Skubala.

His situation has placed Leiecster on high alert, and they are now preparing an offer to tempt Bristol City into selling in the closing stages of the transfer window,.

There is also a feeling that Riis could be keen to move on in search of regular first-team football, with Martin's side now leading the race for his signature.

Which other strikers are on Leicester's radar?

After what has been a nightmarish start to the new season for Leicester, they are determined to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.

The addition of a new striker is high on their list of priorities, with a number of options having been assessed behind the scenes at the King Power Stadium.

Football Insider revealed last month that Leicester were keen on signing Mikael Mandron on a free transfer, following his exit from St Mirren, but they lost out to Stockport.

They have been forced to consider other options as a result, with Riis now high on their list, and work is being done behind the scenes to help them strengthen.

Meanwhile, Leicester are also preparing to lose big-name players in the closing stages of the transfer window, ahead of what is expected to be a busy couple of days.
