Daniel Levy has a huge opportunity to sign Watford’s midfield sensation Abdoulaye Doucoure in the summer and must make sure he’s at the front of the queue.
The 25-year-old midfielder has been on fire in the Premier League this season with seven goals from central midfield in 26 league appearances.
His performances have put him on the radar of a number of clubs and the player himself seems to be agitating for a move to a one of the Premier League’s big hitters after a recent interview.
As quoted by Sky Sports, Doucoure revealed that Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool were all interested in him, and his comments suggest that he would love a move to any of them.
“It’s true that these clubs are interested in me,” Doucoure said. “But I am at Watford and my focus is on finishing the season well and to maintain their Premier League status.
“After, when the club and I make the decision to make the next step, then that will have to be agreed but, for now, I am focused on Watford.”
That’s a huge come-and-get-me plea for a player who knows that this season probably represents his best shot at getting a lucrative deal with a world-class team.
In the 2016/17 season he scored just one goal for Watford in 20 Premier League appearances. This season he’s been a sensation and Tottenham fans have been saying that he is a natural replacement for Mousa Dembele.
It seems that Mauricio Pochettino is a fan as well after the Daily Mail reported earlier that he went on a personal scouting mission to watch Doucoure play against Chelsea, and was impressed with what he saw.
Pochettino has talked a lot about the need to keep Dembele fit and the player has suffered from recurring injury problems.
At 30 years old Poch knows he’ll have to start looking for a player who could act as a replacement and back-up for Dembele at the heart of the Tottenham engine.
This is a huge opportunity to sign the perfect player and Levy should ensure that Tottenham are at the head of the queue when Doucoure decides to make the leap – hopefully this summer.
