Liverpool have agreed personal terms with the agent of Roma goalkeeper Alisson, according to a report.
ESPN claims that the Reds held talks with Alisson’s representative Stefano Castagna on Merseyside last week and reached an “understanding” over terms to sign the 26-year-old when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.
It is understood that Castanga is now scheduled to hold talks with Roma to try and thrash out a move for his client, in a deal that could see Liverpool splash an almighty fee worth £62million.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is said to have made signing a new goalkeeper his top priority for the summer transfer window.
ESPN says that proven performer Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers in Europe after impressing in the Italian capital over the last 18 months.
The Brazil international has made 30 appearances in all competitions this term, keeping 13 clean sheets – three of those coming in the Champions League group stages against Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Qarabag.
Football Insider verdict
Klopp has been widely criticised for not strengthening his defence enough during his time at Liverpool, but it seems that 2018 is the year that the German boss takes a no-nonsense approach to beefing up his rearguard. The £72million splash on Virgil van Dijk was a lot of money, but £62million for a goalkeeper smacks of desperation. Alisson is good and will be a clear improvement on Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius – but no way is he worth that much. It’s good that the Reds appear to have stole the march on signing the Roma star though as ESPN claims he is a wanted man across the continent.
