Liverpool: Alisson has ‘question marks’ over his long-term future despite contract plan

Liverpool have “questions marks” over the long-term future of Alisson due to his recent injury record, sources have told Football Insider.

The club hierarchy are understood to be “disappointed” with the number of games that the 33-year-old has missed so far this term, and that has placed doubts over him for the future.

The former Roma man is currently sidelined with a muscle injury, while Juventus are eyeing up the prospect of a summer move for him.

Sources say that the Reds are clear that he is not for sale this summer, despite the fact that he is due to head into the final year of his contract.

Liverpool are facing an overhaul of some of the more senior members of their squad this summer, but Alisson is expected to stay put for the next window at least.

Alisson’s contract situation to be judged during next season

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Liverpool will evaluate Alisson’s future as the 2026-27 season is ongoing, with a new contract potentially set to be put on the table.

The Merseysiders are expected to weigh up the veteran’s role within the squad on a game-by-game basis next term, before reaching a final decision as to whether he will be allowed to depart as a free agent in 2027.

Alisson’s injury record in the last three seasons, as per Transfermarkt.

The Anfield outfit want to give the Brazilian every chance of proving his continued worth in the early stages of the next campaign, but there are growing concerns that his fitness issues may prevent him from doing so.

He has now missed 15 games in all competitions through either injury or illness in 2025-26, meaning that Giorgi Mamardashvili has been called upon much more frequently than initially expected.

If that poor run of injuries continues into next season, then it may ultimately prove very difficult for Liverpool to justify handing him an extension.

Alisson stance could change if Liverpool switch manager

Football Insider revealed last week that the Liverpool board have reluctantly accepted that they will have to sack Arne Slot if the atmosphere surrounding the club becomes “toxic” in the coming weeks.

The Dutchman has been under ever-increasing pressure at Anfield in recent weeks, while it appears that some sections of the support have already turned on the title-winning chief.

Slot’s position is extremely precarious heading into the summer, and it is entirely possible that the club’s plans in regard to the squad could change drastically if they pull the trigger and bring in a new man at the helm.

The appointment of a new manager often provides a total shake-up within the squad, and that has the potential to set several players back to square one.
