Liverpool and Newcastle United in race to sign Jeremy Monga, Leicester resigned to sale

Liverpool and Newcastle United are both ready to join the growing Premier League race to sign Leicester City starlet Jeremy Monga this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Arsenal, Tottenham and both Manchester clubs are also keen to sign the 16-year-old winger, with the intention for him to join up with their academy sides to continue his development.

The Premier League’s elite clubs are all circling around the youngster, and sources have indicated that Leicester have accepted that it will be very difficult for them to keep him if they are relegated.

The Foxes are extremely reluctant to lose him, but are beginning to come round to the fact that a sale may be unavoidable, given the level of interest.

Liverpool’s transfer plans for the summer are set to focus on a rebuild of their group at senior level, but they have still got their eyes firmly on Monga, who they see as an exciting talent for the future.

Jeremy Monga yet to sign professional terms with Leicester

Monga became the second-youngest player in Premier League history when he debuted for Leicester in a defeat to Newcastle back in April 2025, and he has become a regular feature for them in the Championship this term.

The wideman has made 25 league appearances for the East Midlands outfit in what has been a troubled campaign at the King Power Stadium, and even chipped in with his first senior goal against Preston in August.

Gary Rowett’s side are currently staring down the barrel of relegation into League One for the first time since 2009, as they are five points adrift of safety with just four games left to play.

That has created a growing fear that they may be about to lose Monga, while their issues are compounded by the fact that he is not yied tied down to a professional contract.

The starlet cannot sign professional terms until he turns 17 on 10 July, almost one month after the English summer transfer window opens.

Leicester would be entitled to a compensation payment if they lost him before then, but it would likely pale in comparison to the money that they could otherwise have secured.

Liverpool and Newcastle could sign Monga for just £2m

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider in March 2025 that Leicester could lose Monga for just £2million at a tribunal.

Manchester City were making a strong push to sign the starlet on that occasion, but this time around, the level of interest is far more extreme and widespread.

Wyness suggested back then that any move for Monga would be a “life-changing decision” in terms of his development within the game, and that remains the case this summer.

Leicester are keen to try and keep hold of their prized academy star long enough for him to at least sign a professional deal, but they may have that taken out of their hands in the early stages of the summer.
