Liverpool backed to agree signing of '£40m' Jordan Henderson replacement - pundit
Frank McAvennie has backed Liverpool to sign Kalvin Phillips for “£40million” this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker suggested Phillips would be a good replacement for Jordan Henderson as he reaches the end of his career.
On 12 April, sources told this site that Man City could sanction the 27-year-old’s exit if they sign Jude Bellingham this summer.
City are pushing hard to get a deal done for the Borussia Dortmund star and may need to sell Phillips in order to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.
Liverpool have previously ruled themselves out of the running to sign Bellingham but Football Insider revealed that the club are now back in contact with the midfielder as they look to lay the groundwork for a 2024 deal.
According to the Daily Star (25 April), Jurgen Klopp’s side are keen on adding Phillips to their midfield this summer.

McAvennie suggested the England international would be a great buy.
“He will get Phillips for about £40/£50m,” he told Football Insider.
“I think he is a good option for that kind of money because then you can buy other players.
“I love Henderson, he is a steady player, keeps everyone under control, but he is coming to the end of his career. They need players in there that are going to be buzzing about.
“I am not too sure if the young boys there are ready to do that yet. So I think Phillips, Thiago [Alcantara] and another midfielder would be wonderful.“
