Liverpool backed to complete Mason Mount signing after source's £70m reveal - pundit

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has insisted Mason Mount will choose Liverpool over Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Mount will walk straight into Jurgen Klopp's side but faces more competition for a place at United.

Erik ten Hag's side have not reached a full agreement with the Chelsea man with Liverpool also still pushing.

The England international has not yet made up his mind on where his future lies next season.

Mount's current contract runs until 2024 and Blues bosses have struggled to reach an agreement with the midfielder over an extension and are willing to sell if no agreement can be reached.

When asked what club would be the best fit for Mount, McAvennie told Football Insider: "I do not think he will stay at Chelsea.

"Man United have a lot of players in the midfield, Casemiro, [Bruno] Fernandes, [Christian] Eriksen.

"I think he would walk into the Liverpool team. Thiago [Alcantara] is not playing all the time so I think if he moves there he will walk straight into the team. I think Liverpool would be a good deal for him."
