Liverpool are moving closer to securing an £8 million deal with Hull City defender Andy Robertson, according to a recent report.
The Liverpool Echo has revealed that the 23-year-old has edged closer to an Anfield move after the left-back left his current club’s training camp in Portugal.
The regional newspaper claims that Jurgen Klopp has been in talks with the newly relegated club over an £8 million swoop for the Scotland international.
It is said that Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp considers the Hull defender as a priority signing this summer in order to bolster his backline.
Liverpool currently over have one left-back in the squad which is in the shape of Alberto Moreno, and signing Robertson would provide an alternative or replacement for the Spaniard.
The 15-capped Scotland international was a key figure with the Hull squad last season and he made a total of 39 appearances where he managed to score one goal and provide three assists.
However, the 23-year-old’s efforts were not enough to prevent the Tigers from facing relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.
Football Insider verdict
Jurgen Klopp is in desperate need of a new left-back option, and Robertson would prove to be a solid choice for the Liverpool boss. The Scotland international showed that he was capable of playing in the top flight and with Hull’s relegation to the Championship, Robertson will surely want to return to the Premier League. Therefore Klopp can entice the young defender to the club with the promise of playing in the top league once again. Liverpool will need to strengthen their defensive options over the summer if they hope to contend for the title during the 2017/18 campaign as currently this is the area where they fall short. Klopp has invested in strengthen the Reds’ striking credentials after securing forward Dominic Solanke on a free transfer in addition to £36 million Mohamed Salah, but now it’s time to turn his attention to the defence.
