Paul Robinson has suggested Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could axe Joel Matip or Joe Gomez to accommodate Nat Phillips in the starting XI for the Merseyside derby.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said "there is so many problems" at Anfield and "something has to change".

Matip and Gomez struggled in a 3-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday (4 February).

As quoted by the Express (5 February), Klopp slammed his side's "horrible" start to the game and claimed "the leadership is missing."

The Reds welcome Everton to Anfield in their next Premier League fixture.

When asked by Football Insider if there should be changes to the starting XI given the manner of the loss at Molineux, Robinson said: "There is so many problems at Liverpool right now.

"Defensively there is a big issue there. Matip and Gomez really struggled at the weekend.

"From the outside looking in, something has to change. Perhaps a change in personnel might help but it will not solve everything.

"I can see Nat Phillips coming in for the Merseyside derby. He is player who puts everything on the line each time he plays. It is a case of changing things until you get a result and then sticking with it.

"They are searching for a spark. They are miles off it at the moment. It is worrying if you're a Liverpool fan."
