Sadio Mane could become Jurgen Klopp’s first major signing of the summer in a deal worth a whopping £72.5million – and supporters of the Merseyside club have reacted negatively to the fee mentioned for the winger.
It has been reported that Liverpool are in pole position to land Mane as they continue to raid Southampton, but there are claims that the Saints are only willing to listen to offers around the £40m mark before they would consider parting with their prized asset.
It is said that Mane has also made it clear that he will demand wages of £125,000-a-week to move to Anfield, which would cost £32.5million over the entirety of a five-year contract.
Mane has staked his claim in the last two years to be one of the outstanding wide players in the Premier League.
He scored 13 goals and supplied nine assists from 40 matches in his debut campaign and followed it up with an even more impressive 15 goals and nine assists from 43 matches in 2015-16.
Many Liverpool fans have expressed their dismay over the winger’s cost despite him being an established Premier League player and adding a further option to their attack.
Here are a selection of their views on Twitter.
Sadio Mane is a great player, but he is not worth £30-40 million. #LFC

Am I the only #LFC fan over the moon with the idea of signing Mane? He's proven premier league quality and would be a great addition

Jurgen Klopp will hope that the Reds are able to lure away another one of Southampton’s stars, despite the south coast club finishing about them in the recently completed season.
In other Liverpool news, Leicester have rejected a £7million bid from the Reds.
