Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Sakho Crystal Palace debut

By Dominic Toner

Mamadou Sakho made his Crystal Palace debut on Saturday – and the Liverpool supporters were frustrated that he was allowed to leave the club.

The 27-year-old completed a six-month loan switch to Selhurst Park in January after falling out-of-favour at Liverpool.

He managed to help relegation threatened Palace earn a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough and keep a rare clean sheet in the process.

Sakho fell down the pecking order at Anfield this season and did not make a single senior appearance this term.

The centre-back was sent home early on the club’s pre-season tour after a breach of discipline and fell out of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans.

Liverpool fans are hopeful that Sakho can complete a remarkable turnaround with the Merseyside club and play for them next season.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Sakho will now hope to play a major role in Palace’s fight for survival in the Premier League and is set to enjoy regular first-team football.

Meanwhile, Klopp deemed his current defensive options as good enough to allow Sakho’s departure, with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip the first-choice centre-back options.

The Reds have been a great attacking outfit during the course of the season, but there have been question marks over their defensive set-up.

They have conceded the most goals (30) out of the top six rivals in the Premier League and some fans believe Sakho should have remained at the club to fight for a starting position.

In other Liverpool news, Klopp has revealed that a 28-year-old has become an immense figure in the dressing room.
