Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Alexander-Arnold display v Man United

By Harvey Byrne

Trent Alexander-Arnold was handed a first team start against Manchester United on Sunday, and Liverpool supporters were left impressed by what they saw in him on Twitter.

The 18-year-old came into the Reds side at right-back, with usual first choice Nathaniel Clyne out of the match due to an injury.

Alexander-Arnold played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 1-1 draw at Old Tafford, which saw a first half James Milner penalty cancelled out by a late Zlatan Ibrahimovic goal.

He was tasked with the challenge of keeping Anthony Martial quiet down his flank before the more experienced Juan Mata came on to replace him.

A number of Reds fans thought he did well against the attackers, and were happy with that they saw from the young starlet.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The match against Manchester United marked Alexander-Arnold’s first Premier League start after previously making his league debut as an 89th minute substitute against Middlesbrough.

He has also featured in three cup ties against Tottenham, Leeds and Plymouth respectively and Jurgen Klopp is clearly a fan of the young starlet.

He will now be hoping for more match time with clashes against Plymouth and Swansea coming up in the next week.
