Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Woodburn display v Burnley

By Harvey Byrne

Ben Woodburn made a 29 minute substitute appearance for Liverpool against Burnley on Sunday afternoon – and Reds fans on Twitter were delighted with what they saw.

The 17-year-old attacker entered the Anfield pitch for star Philippe Coutinho, who had an uncharacteristically poor display.

The young teen showed flashes of his pace and fine footwork during his cameo appearance and he played in a fine ball which just missed the head of Divock Origi in his best bit of play.

Liverpool ended up winning the match 2-1 with goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can cancelling out an early Ashley Barnes effort.

Despite not getting on the score sheet, large sections of the Liverpool fan base hailed the display of Woodburn.

A number of supporters on social media were keen to praise Woodburn for his cross in, while another shared that the youngster is already a driving force.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Woodburn made his debut for Liverpool in the Premier League earlier this season against Sunderland.

He has since gone on to play another six times for the club and bagged his first senior goal in an EFL Cup tie against Leeds.

Fans will now be hoping the young starlet becomes one of a number of successes to break through the Merseyside youth ranks.
