Liverpool have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain as he is set to commit his future to Arsenal, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that the 23-year-old is “ready to commit himself” to the Gunners despite the Reds being keen to bring the Premier League star to Anfield in the summer as they prepare for an upcoming Champions League campaign.
It is understood that Arsenal have begun talks with Oxlade-Chamberlain over a new deal that is worth at least £100,000-a-week and he will in turn reject the opportunity to move to Merseyside.
According to the Mirror, Wenger wants to have the deal done in the next couple of weeks.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered mixed form for Arsenal this season, but is certainly not the only first-team player to suffer the same fate as the North London club failed to finish in the top four of the league for the first time in Wenger’s reign.

It looks as though it may be back to the drawing board for Jurgen Klopp. Unfortunately Oxlade-Chamberlain is exactly the type of player he needs in his team at the moment but targets elsewhere will simply have to do. ‘The Ox’ can play in the centre of midfield and on both wings so whenever there are injury concerns he would be a great player to move around and fill certain voids. It’s a massive plus for the Gunners though, who despite not playing in the Champions League next season, still need to try and right a lot of wrongs that were endured over the course of the past ten months.
