Finance guru: Liverpool have banked £68m and could soon land £4m bonus after 'huge' development
The £13million Liverpool banked for reaching the Champions League final took their total prize money to £68.4m – and they will earn an extra £4m if they win the competition.
So says finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the financial rewards of the Reds’ road to Paris.
Liverpool beat Villareal 3-2 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate on Tuesday (3 May) to book their place in their third Champions League final in five years.
There they will face Real Madrid, whose dramatic comeback against Man City last night (4 May) gives them a shot at winning a 14th European title.
The pair will meet in a repeat of the 2018 final at the Stade de France on 28 May.
Liverpool won all six of their group stage games, earning £2.4m each time, with prize money from the knockout taking the total figure to £68.4m.

Plumley explained that as well as the Uefa payout, Liverpool will gain commercial benefits from their success in Europe.
“In terms of prize money, it’s another £13m for reaching the final,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.
“It’s then an extra £3.8 if you can go and win it. So it’s not insignificant and there are other benefits too.
“It’s huge for English clubs because of the coefficient rights. They get more of the pot because broadcasters pay the most.
“The more significant side of things is the leverage they gain with new commercial partners. If they win a quadruple, that will be further enhanced.”
Liverpool face Chelsea in the FA Cup final next Saturday (14 May) and trail Man City by just one point in the league with four games to go.
The quadruple hopefuls lifted the League Cup in February.
