Liverpool are in advanced talks to sign Lyon emerging star Jordy Gaspar, according to a report.
French publication Telefoot claim the Merseyside giants are working on deal to land the right-back, who has yet to sign a professional contract with the Ligue 1 club.
It is said that Gaspar, 19, is under a trainee deal until 30 April and he is able to leave Lyon on a free transfer from 1 May.
This has thrown the young defender’s future into considerable doubt, as Liverpool and Serie A big hitters AC Milan lead the race for his signature.
“The player and his entourage are in advanced discussions with AC Milan and Liverpool, who have sent several proposals,” Telefoot report.
“Fiorentina and Bayer Leverkusen are also interested, to a lesser extent.”
The France Under-20 international has made only three first-team appearances under Bruno Genesio at Lyon, including one in the Champions League, in September’s 1-0 defeat away to Sevilla, while he has also started in two Ligue 1 fixtures.
Furthermore, Gaspar has been named on Lyon’s substitutes’ bench on 14 other occasions this season, suggesting there is a clear route to the senior set-up for him in France.
Liverpool’s current first choice right-back is Nathaniel Clyne, with academy product Trent Alexander-Arnold emerging as an increasingly impressive alternative.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the club are in talks to sign up a left sided winger.
