Kieran Maguire: Liverpool may have just avoided 'nightmare' scenario as new deal agreed
Liverpool may have just avoided a “nightmare” Covid scenario after they announced a new partnership with SC Johnson.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the deal with the disinfectant and sustainability specialist.
Liverpool revealed the new partnership on 21 September and detailed an action plan to “maintain the highest hygiene standards” at their facilities.
They follow in the footsteps of Man United, who announced a similar deal with infection prevention experts Ecolab earlier this year.
Maguire insists that Liverpool will be desperate to minimise the risk that Covid could pose to their squad and staff members.
“It is absolutely essential to stay Covid-free,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“It is also essential that as well as keeping the facilities open, you need to minimise the chances of key members of staff missing matches.
“That could happen as a result of either having Covid or having to self-isolate as a result of being in contact with someone. It’s a nightmare scenario.
“If it results in Liverpool losing a match that they might have drawn or turns a draw into a win, that has a direct impact on the finances.
“It’s £2million per place in the Premier League. The difference between getting into the Champions League or not can be worth far more than that.
“So there are health but also financial concerns. That’s why we’re seeing more of this type of arrangement from big clubs.”
