Liverpool news: Expert spills Diogo Jota 'secret' after 'world-class' reveal
Noel Whelan has hailed Liverpool star Diogo Jota for the “understanding and intelligence” behind his prolific aerial ability.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old has rendered Roberto Firmino “obsolete” with his clinical form.
Jota scored his sixth header of the season during the 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday to send Liverpool temporarily top of the Premier League.
As per Anfield Watch (2 April), no player has more headed goals than the Portuguese forward since his debut for the Merseyside club in September 2020.
He has 20 strikes in 41 appearances across all competitions this term.
Whelan suggested Jota is “using his footballing brain” to make up for his 5ft 10inch frame.

“It’s his movement. That’s the secret,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“He’s got a real understanding and intelligence which allows him to get in between defenders and finish these chances.
“He knows he can’t compete one-on-one for a header, so he’s adapting and using his footballing brain to get himself in the right areas.
“He’s such a clever player, he’s become a huge one. He hit the ground running when he came into Liverpool, and he’s almost made Roberto Firmino obsolete with the pressure he’s put on him.
“Not only that, but he stepped up when Mane and Salah were away at the African Cup of Nations, too. He’s a great player to have in your side.”
As quoted by the Daily Mail (3 April), manager Jurgen Klopp claimed Jota is “growing into a world-class striker”.
The Merseysiders face a title showdown against Man City on Sunday (10 April).
