Liverpool news: Pundit 'shocked' by Roberto Firmino latest as 'massive' news confirmed
Alan Hutton was shocked by the decision to leave Liverpool star Roberto Firmino out of the Brazil World Cup squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said there is “massive” competition within the international squad.
Brazil’s World Cup squad was announced on Tuesday (8 November) and included Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, as well as Man United’s Antony and Tottenham’s Richarlison.
The Liverpool winger was one of four players that were included in the September friendlies that did not make the squad for the tournament in Qatar.
But Hutton acknowledge that it was always going to be a challenge for the 31-year-old to make the cut despite his impressive form.
“He has been playing at Liverpool and he has been playing at a high level,” he told Football Insider.

“We have probably seen the best of him in a while so for him not to make that squad it is a shock. You need to also remember who they have got for that squad.
“It is not like he is going into a small squad of players where they are struggling. This is a team that is tipped to go and win it so it is always going to be difficult with the talent that they have got.
“He will be disappointed but ultimately there is massive competition for that squad so you can understand why it is difficult to get into.“
