Liverpool midfielder Emre Can is set to snub Italian champions Juventus in order to join Premier League rivals Manchester City on a free transfer next summer, according to a report.
The Daily Star claim that Can is being lined up as a replacement for Yaya Toure at City, with the player keen on working with Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
Can was a £10million signing for the Reds three years ago, arriving from Bayer Leverkusen, and there is no sign of a new deal being agreed before his contract runs out in the summer.
The Germany international has been a regular fixture for Liverpool since his arrival, making 144 appearances and scoring 11 goals in all competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a key figure for Jurgen Klopp this season, and Liverpool are reportedly keen to work out a new contract for the midfielder.
The player has been linked with Juventus heavily but the news that Man City and Guardiola are interested is a shock development – and one that would be seen as very unwelcome by Klopp.
Football Insider verdict:
Liverpool would be loathe to lose a player who has developed into a regular international at Anfield, especially if it were to a Premier League rival. Can is still only 23 and is starting to show regular glimpses of his vast potential under the stewardship of Klopp, and it could be City who now benefit from his development. Why Liverpool have failed to agree a new contract with Can is a mystery, but it is pretty clear that they want to retain his services. However, if Can has set his sights on a move to the Etihad to work with Guardiola, then it seems there is not much the Reds can do.
