Liverpool are in advanced talks to sign Aberdeen sensation Calvin Ramsay, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League club are increasingly confident of beating Leeds United to the capture of the right-back, 18.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Liverpool have been granted permission to hold talks with Ramsay as they look to convince him to make the move to Anfield.

The Champions League runners-up are well placed to secure a breakthrough following recent negotiations.

Aberdeen are ready to cash in on Ramsay this summer to raise some much-needed funds and have given Liverpool and Leeds the green light to talk to the rising star.

But the Dons intend to hold out for a "significant" seven-figure fee for the teenager and recently-crowned Scottish young player of the year.

It could climb beyond £3million including add-ons.

Negotiations are set to centre on contractual terms as well as how Liverpool see the youngster fitting into their first-team squad.

The Merseysiders are in the market for an understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who Jurgen Klopp has claimed is the best in his position in Europe.

That role was shared in the recently-completed domestic campaign by Joe Gomez and James Miller following Neco Williams' loan move to Fulham.

Ramsay has just had an outstanding season at Aberdeen and is firmly established as their first choice right-back.

He has already played 39 times for the club, including 33 in the 2021-22 campaign.
